Before I ever stood on a film set, I spent twelve years in Dubai learning people.
As a Customer Service Officer in branch banking at Union National Bank in Dubai, later part of Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, I met the whole world across one desk. The first-time saver with shaking hands. The businessman checking his watch. The family who had just landed with two suitcases and a dream. I learned to listen before I spoke, to stay calm when the room was not, and to find a way through when there seemed to be none.
In 2021 the world came to Dubai for Expo 2020. That same year I walked through a new door, into events, television and film. On my first set I knew I had found my place. Every lesson from those twelve years was something a production needed.
Some moments stay with me. A Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, one of the most valuable cars on earth, rolling onto the Jumeirah Bay Bridge as the sun came up, for the Mille Miglia. Audemars Piguet revealing a new timepiece at Dubai Watch Week. Six women chasing the chance of a lifetime in The Brokers, a series filmed entirely in Dubai.
The audience only ever sees the ending. They never see the months of work that make that moment possible. That unseen part is mine, and I would not trade it for anything.
